Yoti adds ConnectID to its age assurance solution as online age checks expand across Australia

Global age assurance provider Yoti has added ConnectID into its age assurance platform, giving users in Australia another privacy-preserving way to prove their age online.

The integration comes as new age assurance requirements take effect under Australia’s Age-Restricted Material Codes, including for R18+ online games and app stores offering R18+ apps. Together, Yoti and ConnectID will give businesses in Australia another way to meet age assurance requirements while protecting users’ privacy.

Yoti’s age assurance solutions help businesses verify age while minimising the amount of personal information users need to share. ConnectID shares this commitment to data minimisation by allowing people to prove their age using information already verified by their bank.

Users who choose ConnectID will be securely redirected to their banking app, which already holds their verified details. The bank is then able to confirm that the user meets the age requirement – such as over 16 or over 18 – and returns a simple “yes” or “no” response to the platform, without sharing any additional information.

No identity documents are uploaded or shared with platforms, and no personal data is shared – not even a name or date of birth – ensuring privacy and anonymity.

ConnectID is already available as an age assurance option for several other major online platforms.

Robin Tombs, CEO at Yoti said: “There’s no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to age verification. By offering a range of secure, privacy-first solutions, including ConnectID, we’re helping companies strengthen age checks and be compliant with new and evolving regulations, without compromising the customer experience.”

Rick Iversen, Head of ConnectID, said: “ConnectID is designed around a simple principle: share only the minimum needed. If a platform needs to know that you’re over 16 or over 18, that’s the information it receives and nothing else – not your date of birth, not a copy of your identity document, and not your biometrics”

“As age checks become increasingly common online, businesses need age assurance that is effective, secure and privacy-preserving. We’re giving companies a range of proven methods so they can strengthen age checks, respond to evolving regulations and give customers a choice in how they prove their age.”
