ConnectID has welcomed the Australian Government’s announcement outlining the next phase of policy settings supporting private sector participation in the Australian Government digital identity system.
“Today’s announcement is another step towards a whole-of-economy trust infrastructure, where Australians can use trusted digital identity across more of the services they rely on every day,” said Andrew Black, Managing Director of Digital Trust at Australian Payments Plus (AP+), which operates ConnectID.
“This will help expand choice in the digital identity ecosystem, while making it easier for people to verify who they are securely and with confidence.”
As Australia's first private-sector identity exchange accredited under the Digital ID Act, ConnectID welcomes the progress towards private sector participation, including the myID charging framework and the broader system settings that enable industry participation, investment and innovation.
“User choice remains critical, and trusted acceptance for business is vital. Increased choice supports accessibility, adoption and inclusion, and these policy settings will help encourage innovation while strengthening the resilience of Australia’s digital identity ecosystem,” said Black.
ConnectID looks forward to the upcoming consultations and will advocate for policy settings that strengthen trust, expand choice and support a sustainable digital identity ecosystem.
